Bruno Giacomelli Alfa Romeo 179 F1 car. Giacomelli gave a good account of himself battling closely with Alan Jones for the first part of the race (even tangling with him, sending both cars off track). Jones eventually took charge and won by almost a lap from the Italian. Didier Pironi was a further 3 laps back in the Elfin MR8 F5000. Could have been a different story with Pironi in an F1 car.
